Today my heart is heavy. The violence in America is off the chain. People are killing policemen just because they are policemen. It doesn’t matter that they may have had nothing to do with the event that is driving the hatred, they are in uniform, therefore they are the enemy. I want to take a moment and say I stand in support of all law enforcement officers in this nation and the world. They put on their uniform and pledge to protect and to serve. One of my earliest memories as a child was of my father walking in with his navy blue uniform on after working a shift as security for a game at the football field. You see, he was a reserve officer of the little city I grew up in. When he retired, he continued to serve the city as well as the county by working as a jailer. I had an uncle who also wore the navy blue as a chaplain for the police department. When he got old enough, my brother became a policeman and served the force for years. When I tell you that the events in Dallas hits close to home, you now know why. Why can we not see each other as God sees us...as precious in His sight. No matter your skin color, when shot, you bleed red. Please pray for America and for the misguided people that are committing the very crime the marchers were protesting ... murder. In honor of the men in blue, today I’ll touch on patriotic music. How many of you watch the Olympics and when our nation wins, get goosebumps hearing our national anthem? What about sports fans that hear the beloved anthem at games? All my life, my family has been patriotic. In high school band we would play Stars and Stripes Forever. We had a talent show called Band Follies that we put on once a year. One of the favorites was Civil War Fantasy. Toward the end, the kettle drum pounded, lights went out and the spotlight hit the wall where Ol’ Glory was unveiled. Talk about chill bumps--they were all over the players and the audience! Here are a few choices for those of you that love our country and flag as much as I do. Thanks for reading and remember to B# and God Bless America!
